Introduce us to your blog My blog is called www.frocktrade.com and is focused on fashion. I’ve travelled around the world so the blog also includes the occasional reflective travel piece but my main aim is to bring informative fashion news and commentary to my readers. I also like to keep them posted on my life as a writer and fashion stylist so I talk about the assignments I’ve been working on that month.
What made you decide to start blogging? I’ve been creative since I was a child and loved writing fictional stories. At university I studied English and subsequently completed a Masters in Journalism. I’ve always loved fashion and spent time in the industry as a model whilst studying. It was a natural transition to move into styling and this, along with my writing and blogging work, forms a busy, fashion-filled week.
What’s your biggest achievement in the blogosphere? The blog has led to a greater awareness of my writing and styling work which in turn has generated many new opportunities both at home and abroad.
Where do you look for inspiration when writing posts? I find inspiration working in the fashion industry itself, from photo shoots to fashion shows. I also keep up-to-date on current trends and the work of emerging and established designers. Often my greatest inspiration is found in the work of fellow creatives.
Is blogging your day job or do you have another occupation? I’m a full time writer and stylist so blogging isn’t my entire day job but it certainly forms one part of my professional working day.
Any favourite blogs/bloggers? I really love the imagery on personal style blog ‘5 inch and up’. I had the pleasure of meeting Sandra (who runs the blog) at a London Fashion Week event and was really impressed with her knowledge about blogging as a profession. Her wardrobe is also exquisite!
Tell us about your style I’m a huge colour fan and live in patterned trousers and loose shirts. I’d say I have quite classic tastes in terms of shapes and fabrics but I like to subtly inject trends into my wardrobe to make sure it stays season appropriate.
What’s the one piece in your wardrobe you couldn’t live without? I have an amazing pair of black bird patterned trousers that are sleek yet comfortable and can be worn with pumps or heels. I also love my Paige jeans. On special occasions my Fendi handbag comes out to play.
Who are your style icons? Olivia Palermo is a huge style icon for me. She mixes designer and high street pieces so well and has a great eye for accessories. Most importantly she always looks comfortable in her clothes and has an effortless air of elegance. Diane Kruger is a very close second.
Share a style tip with us A suit jacket is the ultimate staple. You can throw on a pair of jeans and a band t-shirt, pop on a black suit jacket and it’s instantly transformed from grunge to chic. I think every woman should own a crisp white shirt and a pair of well cut indigo jeans.
How would you describe M&Co’s style? Practical with trend-led twists
What’s your favourite piece from our current collections? I love the Red Floral Shift Dress, the colour and pattern stand out and the price point is great.
Do you prefer to shop online or in-store and why?
The nature of my job means I’m in and out of shops every day and it’s difficult not to buy bits and bobs for yourself along the way. I prefer to shop in-store as I like to look at the fabric and the cut of the clothes before I buy them. No matter what size you are things generally look different on your body to how they sit on the hanger.
