Body Shape Special: The Apple

Alison, the face behind Wardrobe Oxygen gave us an insight into how she chooses a party dress for the apple body shape;

Tell us what you look for when you go shopping for party dresses: As a curvy woman who is an “apple” shape, when I am shopping for party dresses I look for something that will flatter my curves and give the illusion of an hourglass figure.

I like to have an interesting neckline to highlight my décolleté, rouching or a detail to whittle the waist, and as a petite woman I like cocktail dresses that end just at or above the knee which elongate my legs.  While a Little Black Dress is a classic, I love using a party as an opportunity to rock a fabulous print or bold colour that is hot for the season.

Are there any M&Co dresses that have caught your eye?uu

The Lace Side Shift Dress is brilliant – purple is a trendy colour for autumn, the neckline is unique and will elongate the neck, and the lace panels give the illusion of a small waist.  This dress is a perfect “Day to Play” frock; cover with a blazer for the office then wear it with sexy heels for an evening affair.

The Ruffle Front Dress comes in a variety of beautiful colours and each one would be perfect for a party; the rouching whittles the waist, the neckline flatters the bust and is begging to showcase a sparkly statement necklace!

I’m a fan of the Bodycon Floral Shutter Dress, which has a bit of a vintage vibe but would look fresh and modern at a cocktail party this season.  What I love most about the Shutter Dress is that it is perfect for travel; wrinkle-proof fabric and a style that can be dressed up or down, you can wear with black heels to a cocktail party and with pumps and a blazer to a networking event.
