Introduce us to your blog: The Prosecco Diaries aims to capture the creative life of London – the events, the culture, the people. I also blog opinion pieces and things that are inspiring me, my feeble attempts to get fit and healthy, and my favourite beauty products.
What made you decide to start blogging? I love writing and always wanted to be a magazine journalist, I even did my school work experience at Mizz (remember that?). But I ended up studying drama at uni, and after trying my hand at various things I became a drama teacher. There was so much I loved about this job, but deep down I knew I wanted to be a writer. I ended up working in a particularly rubbish school and felt unhappy, so I started my blog as an escape. I never thought it would lead me anywhere professionally, but almost a year after I started I was able to quit my job and blog full time.
Tell us about your style… I live in black jeans, they’re my staple – matched with trainers or dainty flats depending on the occasion. I’d rather be casual in a T-shirt and feel comfortable, but I use statement necklaces and bold make-up looks to make things interesting. I’m also partial to cardigans and satchels.
Where do you get your wardrobe inspiration? I love women who can make it look like they just threw something on and still be stylish, like Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller, and Milla Jovovich. I also love Caroline Issa’ use of bold colour and masculine tailoring, plus I look through magazines and blogs for inspiration.
Is blogging your day job or do you have another occupation? It’s my day job, and I also do bits of freelance writing. I do some PR work and organise blogger events for brands; my favourite one was a burlesque dance lesson for 15 bloggers at Café de Paris followed by a cabaret show. I organised every part of it from securing the fabulous venue to curating the goody bags and mixing the cocktails! I recently launched Bloggeration with a fellow blogger. We run training workshops and events for bloggers, helping people to take their blog to the next level.
If you could meet any top blogger, who would it be and why? At the moment I’d want to meet Perez Hilton and ask him what the hell was going through his mind during his Celebrity Big Brother appearance. I’m amazed that someone who had the nouse to build up a blog to the level he has would just want to throw away all his credibility and make such a show of himself.
What style are you currently obsessed with? I’m loving pastel hair shades. I don’t think they’re on their way out yet. I spend way too much time thinking about which colour I could go, and I think it’s a great look for any season – working well with so many looks. Fellow blogger In The Frow is my pastel hair crush! Lavender looks great on her.
What’s the one beauty product you couldn’t live without and why? For skincare I am loving Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream – it’s so nourishing! Make-up it would have to be blusher, I’m obsessed with it! Everyone looks at least 80% healthier and prettier when they wear some.
What’s your favourite piece from our current collections? I love the SS15 sailboat top! So cute and vintagey looking. It will work well with my trusty black jeans, and one of M&Co’s bright SS15 bags.
Do you prefer to shop online or in-store? Online, I must say. I like being able to try items on at home with other clothes I already have, and not feel under any dressing room pressure. I worked part time in an M&CO store whilst I was at uni, so I know for a fact that there is no pressure of any kind placed on in-store shoppers!
If you had to share one piece of fashion advice what would it be? Choose comfort every time! The most stylish women are the ones who feel completely comfortable in what they’re wearing and they’re not self-consciously tugging at their outfit or worrying how they look. There are so many fabulous women from Audrey Hepburn to Kate Moss who have proved that you can still be a style icon and be utterly sexy in a low-key look.
