M&Co raise over £2 million for Cancer Research UK
This year marked an incredible milestone for M&Co, we are proud to have now raised £2 million for Cancer Research UK.
A huge thank you to all of our customers and employees who have helped us reach this. The money raised will help Cancer Research UK bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
Here, we look back at some of our most recent fundraising highlights…
M&Co Baton Relay
Back in March 2014, the M&Co baton relay set off on its tour with each area being given two weeks to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.
A target of £10,000 was smashed with fundraising activities including walking, climbing, running, fashion shows and lots more.
At the end of July, our London buying office set themselves the challenge of cycling from London to Glasgow, a total of 411 miles.
The baton tour ended at our Paisley head office in November with a challenge set to beat the buying office’s total number of miles.
A fantastic effort from all cyclists involved smashed the buying office’s total and reached over 500 miles travelled, crowning our head office the winner!
In total the M&Co 2014 baton relay travelled over 5000 miles and over £50,000 was raised in just 8 months.
London to Glasgow Walk
On 11th October Hannah Brearley Jones from the design team at LBO, along with her boyfriend Stean set themselves the enormous challenge of walking 400 miles from London to Glasgow in aid of Cancer Research UK.
The walk began in London and took 14 days through hail, wind and rain, ending at Glasgow Central Station and they raised a very impressive £2176.
However, the biggest surprise was at the end of the walk when Stean got down on one knee and proposed as they arrived at the train station!
We wish the happy couple all the best for the future.
Last year several very brave M&Co employees took part in a zip slide across the Clyde in Glasgow and raised an amazing £3000 for CRUK!
Thank you so much to Alyson Mitchell, Nicola Mercer, Kayleigh McKay, Jade Ruddy, Marcella Ross, Paul Deighan, Grant Flood, Graham Allan, Eilish Harvey, Steven Menzies, Ashley McNulty , Caroline McTaggart and Alexandria Toner.
We feel dizzy just thinking about it!
Our stores have been super busy fundraising to help us reach the £2 million mark.
The girls from Ayr were walking on air after their fashion show which raised an amazing £409 for Cancer Research UK.
With male models from the local gym shaking buckets to some fantastic raffle prizes, every one of the 80 people who attended the event had a fun filled night.
More cycling madness took place at the Broughty Ferry store one Saturday when the girls pedalled non-stop from 10am until 4pm and covered 220 miles.
Some people go on holiday for a rest, but not Kay Battram from M&Co’s Loughton store, who decided to take on a paragliding challenge while on holiday. A massive thank you to Kay who raised over £250, you brave lady!
Jackie Bootman from the Fareham store completed a ‘Tandem Skydive’. Raising hair and money, Jackie was strapped to a man and thrown out of a plane at 10,000 ft in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Well done Jackie, we salute you!
Shop Assistant Joanne Hallam found herself locked up in a cage outside the Nairn branch of M&Co recently, accused of “crimes against fashion”. But Joanne was a willing captive and raised £200 ransom for M&Co’s official charity partner, Cancer Research UK.
Thanks again to all of our staff and customers who helped us achieve this incredible milestone. Next stop, £3 million! Read more about M&Co’s charity work so far on our website.
