City Break Style

What to wear on a city break this year

Spring’s the perfect time of year for taking a short city break before holiday season gets into full swing.

With the weather not quite as hot as the summer months, it’s ideal for sightseeing trips to some of the world’s most beautiful locations.

When it comes to visiting fashion capitals, it makes sense to plan your wardrobe in advance so you look as stylish as the locals.

Here’s our top wardrobe tips when it comes to packing for city breaks in London, Paris, New York and Milan…

London City Style
Products clockwise from L to R: White embroidered top; Monochrome floral top; Black round sunglasses; Orange linen cardigan; Striped maxi dress; Black and gold necklace; Black open toe boots; White jeans; Monochrome bag; White slouch bag; Leopard print trousers

Our Web Content Manager, Joanne Wilkinson, is planning on visiting London this spring and would advise packing for all seasons.

“Although London temperatures can soar at this time of year, the rain is never too far away.

I’ll be packing lightweight monochrome pieces that can be layered to suit the weather and a pop of colour for when the sun shines.

My London essential is this monochrome maxi dress, the perfect day to night piece that’s ideal for shopping on Oxford Street or visiting vintage markets, followed by dinner and drinks at one of London’s many chic restaurants and bars.”

Paris City Style
Products clockwise from L to R: Monochrome stripe jumper; Quilted chain bag; Tortoiseshell sunglasses; White crochet trim T-shirt; Straw trilby hat; Black skinny belt; Gold lariat necklace; Black ballet pumps; Orange striped skirt

Dille from Random Chic Musings talked us through her wardrobe choices for her upcoming trip to Paris.

“I am looking forward to unfolding new adventures and enjoying a girly holiday in the beautiful city of Paris.

These style picks are inspired by my upcoming trip; it will only be a short trip, so that means mainly sightseeing and eating! I would naturally settle for more comfortable clothing but still like to look fashionable.

I’m definitely in need of sensible, flat shoes for lots of walking. I can hardly wait for summer already!”

New York City Style
Products clockwise from L to R: Blue crochet shoulder shirt; Enamel graphic necklace; Navy crew neck cardigan; Gold rope necklace; ikat print jersey dress; Blue floral shift dress; Chain detail slingbacks; Black oversized sunglasses; Blue and black clutch bag; Cropped boyfriend jeans

New York

Fashion blogger Laura from Living for the Now picked the Big Apple as her go-to destination for her birthday.

As soon as we got there I was in awe. Everything is bigger and brighter than anything you have seen before. The brownstone houses, the flashing lights and all of the bars make you feel like you’re in a movie.

When planning a trip to New York ensure you bring along :

  • Comfortable shoes that are waterproof and suitable for walking
  • Jumpers & cardis that are perfect for when it gets a little chilly
  • Vest tops that help to layer up
  • Comfy jeans
  • A ‘going out’ dress for the evening time, here’s the M&Co dress I love!
  • Some nice shoes to match the dress

New York has also captured the heart of Isobel from Fashionista Chic. Isobel picked out the Floral Print V Neck Shift Dress and told us all the places she’s hoping to visit.

“New York City has been a dream of mine to visit, with all the amazing shops.

One thing for sure that I would take on a holiday like this would be this gorgeous Floral Print Wrap Dress from M&Co. Dress it up with silver ankle strap heels and a clutch bag or dress it down with sandals and a short jacket for a daytime look.”

Milan City Style
Products clockwise from L to R: Purple floral sundress; Cream jacket; Khaki colour block bag; Purple bubble hem top; Gold sunglasses; White linen trousers; Orange bead necklace; Camel peep toe wedges; Khaki sleeveless blouse

Susan Jamieson, M&Co’s Email Marketing Coordinator, is looking forward to visiting Italy’s fashion capital, Milan.

“Milan in summer can be hot and humid so I’d opt for a floral sundress to stay cool without compromising on style.

Layers are essential for any city break so I’ll be packing this chic cropped cream jacket, perfect for keeping the chill off my shoulders.

A pair of camel wedges would finish off the look perfectly, offering a comfortable way to step around the city in style.
