Pancake recipes the whole family will love

With Valentine’s firmly behind us, it’s time to start prepping for the MOST important day in February, Pancake Day, with some yummy pancake recipes! With only a week to go, organisation is key to keeping the whole family smiling on Shrove Tuesday.

Traditional pancake recipe

Keep it simple this Pancake Day and opt for a traditional American pancake recipe that everyone will love. These yummy pancakes are super easy to make and taste great with maple syrup.

American Pancake recipesTraditional American Style Pancake Recipe (serves 4)

Ingredients:
135g plain flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tbsp salt
2 tbsp caster sugar
130ml milk
1 large egg
2 tbsp melted butter

Toppings:
Maple/golden syrup
Lemon and sugar

Method:

  1. Sift the flour into a large bowl. Add the baking powder, salt and caster sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, lightly whisk the milk, egg and then add melted butter.
  3. Pour the milk, egg and butter mixture into the flour mixture and beat with a fork until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Heat a non stick frying pan and add a knob of butter. Once melted, use a ladle to add batter to the pan.
  5. Wait until the top of the pancake starts to bubble, then turn it over and cook until both sides are golden brown.
  6. Repeat until batter mix is used up.

Chocolate pancake recipe

We’ve got the perfect Nutella pancake recipe for chocolate lovers this Shrove Tuesday. Think soft fluffy pancakes oozing with warm chocolate spread… time to get baking!

Nutella Stuffed Pancake recipesChocolate Stuffed Pancake Recipe (serves 6)

Ingredients:
10-14 tbsp Nutella or similar chocolate spread
192g plain flour
3 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tbsp salt
4 tbsp caster sugar
270ml milk
1 large egg
1 tbsp butter

Toppings:
Lightly dusted icing sugar

Method:

  1. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Spoon out 2 tbsp of chocolate spread onto the tray and spread to create small discs around 6cm (repeat to create 6 discs).
  3. Place tray in the freezer for around an hour until chocolate is firm.
  4. Sift the flour into a large bowl. Add the baking powder, salt and caster sugar.
  5. In a separate bowl, lightly whisk the milk, egg and then add melted butter.
  6. Pour the milk, egg and butter mixture into the flour mixture and beat with a fork until a smooth batter forms.
  7. Heat a non stick frying pan and add a knob of butter. Once melted, use a ladle to add 1/4 cup of batter to the pan.
  8. Work quickly and place one frozen chocolate spread disc on to batter then top with more batter to cover chocolate disc.
  9. Wait until the sides of the pancake start to bubble, then turn over and cook until both sides are golden brown.
  10. Repeat until batter mix is used up.

Healthy Pancake RecipesFlour-Free Banana and Oat Pancake Recipe (serves 2)

Ingredients:
2 bananas
34g rolled gluten free oats
1/2 tbsp gluten free baking powder
2 eggs
Pinch of salt
Butter

Toppings:
Honey
Fresh Fruit
Natural Yogurt

Method:

  1. Mash together peeled banana using a fork or potato masher.
  2. Add eggs, oats, baking powder and salt and whisk together until a well-blended batter is formed.
  3. Heat a non stick frying pan and add a knob of butter. Once melted, use a spoon to add batter to the pan.
  4. Wait until the top of the pancake starts to bubble, then turn it over and cook until both sides are golden brown.
  5. Repeat until batter mix is used up.

Fun pancake recipe for kids

Make Pancake Day fun and involve the kids when whipping up a tasty treat. Our fruity teddy bear pancake recipe is easy to make and perfect for putting a smile on their faces!

Teddy Bear Pancake RecipesTeddy Bear Pancake Recipe (serves 2)

Ingredients:
128g plain flour
1 tbsp caster sugar
Pinch of salt
1 large egg
1/2 cup of milk
Butter

Toppings:
Banana slices and blueberries

Method:

  1. Sift the flour into a large bowl. Add the baking powder, salt and caster sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, lightly whisk the milk, egg.
  3. Pour the milk and egg mixture into the flour mixture and beat with a fork until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Heat a non stick frying pan and add a knob of butter.
  5. Drop 2 tbsp size drops of batter onto pan to create ears.
  6. Add a 1/2 cup of batter for the face and 1/3 cup of batter for the muzzle.
  7. Wait until the top of the pancake starts to bubble, then turn it over and cook until both sides are golden brown.
  8. Repeat until batter mix is used up.
  9. Arrange and decorate to create a teddy bear face.
