SS14 Kylie Trend Guide

Now it’s time to look at our teen range Kylie for SS14! We know how important it is to stay on trend so we’ve asked some expert fashion and beauty bloggers, and some M&Co Head Office insiders, to give us their take on a few of the trends we’ll be wearing this season and how Kylie can help you make this a look of your own!

The lovely Mia from Teenage beauty blogger gave us her inside tips on how to look fab this season…

“My favourite trend is denim! A classic trend that can make an outfit look formal or casual, perfect for both spring and summer. It’s a wardrobe necessity for any girl. You can’t go wrong with denim.”

My favourite items
Lace overlay dress - it’s bright and makes a statement, dainty and daring! Would go so well with a denim jacket!

Black swimsuit - this is the little black dress of the swim suit world! Lovely and sleek!

Panda face shoes - these pumps will go with pretty much anything and the panda face gives it that perfect niche twist!

90′s Fashion

Celeb Inspiration: Perrie Edwards, Amelia Lily, Rita Ora

Fashion and beauty blogger Dani Johanna also gave us her S/S14 trend to look out for.

“I love the nineties/Clueless look that is hitting the shops at the moment. Checks, crop tops and twin sets, T-bar heels… I need them all!

I’ve always been a fan of Clueless! Cher Horowitz could pull an outfit together and make it look amazing. I love patterns, bright colours and anything quirky.

A plaid/check skirt, a white shirt and a solid coloured sweater vest would hit the mark, but I’d probably tone it down by not wearing it as a full combination! I also love the twin sets you can buy at the moment.”

Festival Fashion

Our website co-ordinator Nicola is responsible for bringing all of Kylie’s fab products online. She loves festival fashion this season and has a few tips on how you can  get the look…

What are your favourite pieces from the new Kylie SS14 collection?
“I love the spot denim dungaree dress, it’s such a great piece for casual wear throughout spring/summer and the light wash denim is so on trend this season!

Jeans are always a wardrobe staple, that’s why I love these new distressed look boyfriend jeans! They would look great with a casual T-shirt or you could team it with a shirt or blouse for a night with friends.

My guilty pleasure is the jellybean photo print socks! They are so fun and cheer up my day! Lucky for me I work in head office, so I already have two pairs!

Relaxed boho is right on-trend this season.  Distressed denims and kimonos are my key pieces for SS14 – festival style is a must have as we approach the summer!”

Floral Prints

Celeb Inspiration: Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande

Our website content assistant who is responsible for making Kylie look great loves floral prints!

“Every spring/summer floral prints become huge, but this year they are bolder, brighter and much more confident. To be right on trend the bigger the better so make sure your floral print is bright and bold enough to get you noticed!”

What’s your favourite pieces from the new Kylie SS14 collection?
“Playsuits are becoming more and more popular each year, that’s why I love this floral print playsuit. The print is bright and it is great for wearing on a warm summer’s day! Or when it’s a bit cooler (as usually happens – especially here in Scotland!) you can team it with tights and a denim jacket.

The lightwash high waisted jeans are such an on-trend colour for this season and would look fab with a floral top or dressed up with a blouse!

Kimonos have been all over the catwalk this season so if you are a true fashionista get the floral print kimono into your wardrobe and be the envy of all of your friends!”

SS14 Trend Guide: Part 1

Now that we’re in March, and the worst of the winter weather is (hopefully!) behind us, it’s time to turn our attention to spring/summer styles that will be key for the season ahead.

We’ve asked some expert fashion and beauty bloggers, and some M&Co Head Office insiders, to give us their take on a few of the trends we’ll be wearing this season and how you can make the look your own…

Sugar Coated

Designer Inspiration: DKNY, Burberry Prorsum, Versace

The candy pastel palette was a strong look in catwalk collections where designers created a sweet sorbet of shades: lemon, sugar pink, mint and parma violet were key colours.

Michelle Pan, of Satchels and Pearls headed over to LFW and gave us her take on the trend:

I think spring/summer ’14 is a time to be daring, be bold and clash bright prints for a stand out edgy look.

I’ve always been a fan of vintage prints, combining texture, pattern and pastel colours together.

I would therefore style the summery pastel print dress with this white cross body bag’.

Laura from Lolly Loves Makeup also picked out the Oriental Floral Shift Dress and gave us her top beauty tips to complement the look:

‘A  neutral eye  with a bold lip works best with pastels. A bright pink would look amazing and will give a great pop of colour.

For spring/summer I will be bringing out the pink lip, for me it helps brighten up my complexion and makes me look more awake.

The floral dress with a pair of nude heels would look amazing, also a nude clutch! They would 100% be the perfect accessories for this lovely bold print dress. It’s right up my street!’

The classic combination of black and white gets a makeover for spring/summer with a graphic asymmetric look seen on many catwalk shows.

Fashionista Wendy Gilmour of Thank Fifi is pleased to see the return of her favourite look:

‘I am really excited about the comeback of black and white – it’s a classic trend which never really goes away and it’s so easy for everyone to adapt it for their own style.  Ladylike shapes are finally reappearing again too so I’m looking forward to digging out some waist belts.

Because it’s a colour led trend there are really no restrictions; black and white works for the day job right through to evening looks.

I’ll be pulling well-tailored pieces, some layers likely, and adding a nice wide waist belt to give a chic silhouette.’

Rosie Smith, a makeup and beauty enthusiast and the beautiful face behind Rosie Alexandra, also loves the natural look with a glowing, dewy finish to complement this trend.

I love to pair this with a subtle eye look, involving a thin eye liner which builds up towards the end, making the lashes and eyes appear bigger.

To pair with the natural look, I would use a pink-nude lipstick to add some hint of colour to the face. Something that would go well with this is the lovely spot prom dress! I love a polka dot in the spring and summer, it would be beautiful with a natural look, but a slight build-up of black eyeliner.’

Into the Blue

Designer Inspiration: Stella McCartney, Fendi, Chloe

An endless wave of deep blue hues washed over the spring/summer catwalks, with ocean-inspired shades injecting a clean, fresh look for the season ahead.

joanne2M&Co’s Web Content Manager Joanne Wilkinson is a big fan of the blue trend:

‘There really is a sea of blues to choose from this year with nautical navy stripes and china blue florals looking particularly strong for the season ahead.

Our nautical striped prom dress is a perfect vintage-inspired piece that fits with spring/summer’s retro seaside vibe while the China print shift dress is perfect for summer weddings.’

lesley_bk_2Beauty Inspiration
Lesley McCormack, M&Co’s Senior Online Womenswear Coordinator, is a fan of the effortlessly-groomed look:

A lighter makeup look works well for summer, especially against cooler blue tones.

The models at the Stella McCartney show, which featured lots of blue, had luminous skin and slicked back hair.

An up-do looks elegant and works well if you have a hint of metallic eyeshadow on your lids – just enough to catch the sun’s rays.’

M&Co STV Competition Winner Revealed!

We ran a fantastic competition with STV in November for one lucky person to win £1000 M&Co vouchers and a luxury makeover in Glasgow which included a personal stylist, hair, make up, a photoshoot, lunch, dinner AND an overnight stay!

Jean Collins was the lucky winner of this great prize and here we give you a behind the scenes look at her day…

Jean arrived at our St Enoch Centre store in Glasgow where she was met by her personal stylist for the day, Karen Buglass, and £1000 of vouchers to spend in store. Jean tried on a range of different outfits picked out by Karen, including new arrivals such as this summery sleeveless lace top and pink leopard print blouse.

After choosing her favourite outfits with the help of Karen, Jean was whisked off for lunch at The Restaurant Bar & Grill in Glasgow’s beautiful Princes Square. This was followed by a hair cut and colour from one of the top stylists in Sassoon, Princes Square.

Jean’s day continued in style when she was then taken to the luxurious One Devonshire Gardens for her makeover and photoshoot.

Below are some shots of Jean’s fantastic make-over! We think she looks fantastic in our summery yellow sleeveless lace top and super stylish sleeveless pleat front top. Steal Jean’s style and team with embroidered denim jeans and our ponte biker jacket for a great smart/casual look!

After posing for photos in her glamorous new attire, our lucky competition winner tucked into a delicious dinner at Bistro Du Vin followed by her overnight stay at One Devonshire Gardens. She had a fantastic day with Karen and we think she is very deserving winner – congratulations Jean!
